I am writing a script and I'm trying to see what value is currently selected on my drop down list. My drop down is populated with a value list.
How do i do this?
If I understand you correctly, you want the script to evaluate what is selected in a dropdown list. If this is correct, think of the dropdown list as just a quick way to enter data into a field. The script would "look" at the field as if it was simply an edit box (a field with data in it is just that, it doesn't matter how the data got there [for this example] ). So "tell" the script to evaluate the field by name, i.e. YourTable::yourField.
If the field has been populated (by selecting a dropdown list value) it should be fine. If it's possible this field may be empty, you'll need to address that in your script.
if seeing means you want to physically see a value you could open "data Viewer" under the tools menu and monitor the field or variable as needed. if you do not have FPM17 or previous advance versions, you could create a "show dialog" box to the script and enter the field or variable into the subject or body sections.
If you want to capture the drop down value after a user selects the value so it can be used later in the script; (usually done from a global field) you simply reference that global field or capture it in a variable.
Depending on the scenario you may have to commit the record at the start of your script.
Yes, i need to figure out how you would evaluate this.
getfield ( fieldname) and it returns as a question mark.
nevermind i got it!!!!!
I’m glad you got it working. Cheers!
