Now the Mac version of the app is ready, I am adjusting and fixing the layout of the Windows version on my Windows laptop. I noticed that there is a check box showing in the popup menus. Why is that and how do I get rid of this?

It shows current value in the field.
Is there a way to hide this check box?
I think "no". It is the only way to know which value is in the field, while menu (field) is open.
If you delete or edit the value (with auto-enter?) to be different than any item of the value list, it would be disappear
I rarely see popup menu in other software, but some (include FMP) use the checkbox in window menu for showing active window. It is also used for "on" status of the on/off style menu item.
It would be standard feature of menu item in Windows.
