Seems not safe?!
Stick to the supported vendors. SSL certificates are not that expensive and the perceived cost savings (small) is not worth the support and maintenance hassle. When you call FMI support with any issue chances are support will stop right there until the unsupported cert is removed and replaced with a supported one.
Going "free' is not worth it IMHO.
