Is there any possibilities that to make selective fields only(Same Table, Same Layout) have to duplicate to new record?!
Kindly share your thoughts!
Thoughts / Comments most welcomed!
Use the Set Variable script step to store the values from the fields you choose then have the script create a New Record and use Set Field with the values that are now stored in your variables.
Thank you for the idea! I'm a newbie to Variable Phase! Could you please suggest me any demo or guide reference related to this above requirement?!
Thanks in advance,
You also have auto enter options for this. Tick the box "Value from last visited record" and specify the field in the Calculated value. There are some things to be aware of though, Filemaker considers the last visited record to be the last record that the user interacted with, not just viewed. So if a user entered a field then it becomes the last visited record.
It would depend on your business rules (do you always want the fields in question carried to the new record? Sometimes? etc.), but what jobu is referring to would be something like this:
1) Create a button that fires a script.
Your script can be something like this (pseudo code):
Show custom dialog... "Create new record with duplicate values?"
If Get (LastMessageChoice) = 2 // the cancel button
Exit script [ text result: 0 ] // (or False or "")
Set Variable [ $firstField ; value: YourTable::your1stField]
Set Variable [ $secondField ; value: YourTable::your2ndField]
Set Variable [ $thirdField ; value: YourTable::your3rdField]
Set field [ YourTable::your1stField ; $firstField ]
Set field [ YourTable::your2ndField ; $secondField ]
Set field [ YourTable::your3rdtField ; $thirdField ]
Go to field [ the field (or object) where you want the user start their activity ]
* Use your actual Table and Field names. I suggest you name $variables with a semantic name that you will recognize easily a year from now.
