Saw that on the Monday schedule for the Orlando Conference. Curious.
Hi jdevans thanks for asking about DevCon Buddy! And thanks beverly for sharing that link (which reminded me we need to update that page content! I just put in a request to the WIT web team to update it). And thanks jormond for that detailed explanation! Your feedback on the sticker is also very helpful. Let me know if you have any other feedback, happy to try to incorporate it this year.
At the DevCon Buddy reception, like Joshua said, will be an opportunity for people who are new to DevCon to get to talk to, and ideally pair up, with someone who has been around a few times and can show you the ropes, such as recommend sessions and speakers, network opportunities, and answer any questions about DevCon. There's no magic number on how many DevCon's you've been to to define yourself as a Rookie or Ambassador; it's all self-assigned, so you can choose your own comfort level. At the reception we will explain the program, and we have some fun activities planned to get everyone to learn more about each other to hopefully make a good match. Also, this year we are encouraging a one to many relationship, meaning if one ambassador would like to have more than one rookie, you can form a team. This is nice because the rookies can get to know each other and explore DevCon together as well. Finally, we have a scavenger hunt game planned (in FileMaker Go) for the Rookies to play, with prizes for the top scores. If you have an ambassador, you will have a huge advantage in the game. The game lasts all through DevCon and winners will receive their prize at the closing ceremony. This program is open to all genders, everyone who attends DevCon is welcome to participate.
Please let me know if you have any more specific questions!
See if this helps:

Still would like to know more about the reception. Who gets invited? Where is it? Do you have to be a woman?
Any one may attend the reception, there is one every year. It geared for new attendees. Sign up to be a buddy (help or get help).

The way it worked last year, there were people with white stickers ( hopefully they can use a different color this year, as it was hard to spot them ), and those people were Ambassadors, or mentors. FileMaker Buddy Rookies had blue stickers, and they were looking for either help, or someone to kind of help guide them through DevCon.
The reception was a gathering of everyone interested. This gives the Rookies a chance to chat with the Ambassadors to get assistance or suggestions. And in many cases, the Rookie ended up following the Ambassador around DevCon for 3 days. It's really a great program. I was am ambassador last year. Though I didn't get to be as helpful as I would have liked because of some other pressing matters that came up, it was a good experience... and I would have loved to have had that at my first DevCon.
