Have to trying to check on the community discussions where and how to download ODBC drivers, but he process is cumbersome or confusing. Need help. I have table/file that need information from an external source.
If you need to access infirmation from an external source, then you need the ODBC driver for the external source. The FileMaker ODBC driver is for an external application to access FileMaker.
Yes, and where do I get reliable drivers. Do I have to buy them or does Filemaker have them? I googled and I see number of suppliers, how do I know which ones are reliable and which ones are con artist? I already picked up a nagging malware that I don't know how to remove. I am becoming cautious.
Tell us what external sources of which you need to connect?
This page has recommended sources and recommended drivers to them:
If you are sharing FileMaker as the Source, the driver is in the install package, but does not install automatically. There may be different versions, depending on the version of FM.

Hi Beverly, I wish to connect to this: :: Namlits Online :: database. I haven't consulted the administrator yet but I suspect it is an SQL Data Source. I want to be able to compare the ear tags that are on my livestock to see whether they are all registered on the Ministerial database.
Ok! 1) discover the database used, and get permission to access it. OR if they can provide a "feed" or even a query method (API), this may be preferable AND an ODBC link may not be needed.
It sounds like you are asking to look at their information.
In the scenario like this one where you don't know what database backend is in use, you have no other option than to talk to the system owner of that other system.
Note that even when it is say a known database like MySQL or Oracle or anything else, they may not want to give you read access to the underlying tables. So ask if they have an API that you can connect to.
