I want to go back to the active record if no records were found (after script step 11). What step am I missing?
if You have -say- 100 records active out of 10'000 and You do a search with no results, filemaker will display the previous foundset if the user cancels the default dialog
If You are running that in a script with 'user abort off', it will show 0 records
You can store a found set with a separate TO ('GTRR' method)
there is some text about that - maybe here

(I'm on the road, unsure if the link is the best one..)
Peform the find in a new window and don't lose the found set? Close a window when appropriate (close the find window if found count is 0, or close the "parent" window, if this is the found set you are looking for). Windows would be named appropriately, of course.
beverly, does this mean that at a certain moment two of the same windows are open (one above the other) until one is closed? I just wonder if you can see this. I'm not at home right now so I can't test it...
the 'new window' script-step will open a new window with the same layout and the same found-set.
You got several options for that new window, moveable, modal, etc. Position/size of that windiw can be set. We place it a bit aside (offsets in x and y) the original one to make it visible...
You can work in the new window as You want. When closing that, You be back in the original window with the old found-set
What mschneider said.
If you name a window, you can directly control show/hide/close.The "offset" is nice if you really need to see the "other window". If you happen to like your "found set" in the new window, you don't want to confuse the user with more than one window.
You could do this "off screen" (the find). Once you get the > 0, then close the original and move the "new window" into view.
p.s. I suppose it depends on what you want to do!
Will this technique work in webdirect and FileMaker Go?
Ah, sorry, I must get my thinking cap on for those.
I did it like this. Maybe not the best solution but it seems to work... I am aware that there is a refresh of the layout, reset of the portals with this script but that is no problem for now. I would rather use the offscreen window technique but if it 's not working in webdirect and Filemaker Go, then I can't use it.
