Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

I see Java 6 is now out and I'm leery about upgrading with the bad taste in my mouth over past Java upgrades and the Admin Console. Before I jump, has anyone else tested to see if it works well with Admin Console?

        • 1. Re: Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

Ooops, I should be more specific.  I am talking about Mac OS X and the upgrade of JAVA SE 6 to 1.6.0_29 that came out on November 8th.

          • 2. Re: Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

Not tested exhaustively, but it seems to to work normally.

            • 3. Re: Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

The admin console  work normally on a MacMini Server with 10.7.2

              • 4. Re: Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

Do we have an offical statement from FileMaker Inc. yet?

Looking for the normal answers on this:

Does it work for Mac OS X 10.5.8, 10.6.8 with Client and Server variations for FileMaker Server, FileMaker Client of the "reasonably" recent flavors of FileMaker - 9, 10, 11 and all the variations but mostly FileMaker Client 10.0.3, 11.0.4...

Anybody at FileMaker Inc. Engineering care to publish an up to date matrix of compatibilities these days for Java Updates?

                • 5. Re: Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

I installed the Java update on one of my machines as a test. All seems fine so far - in that I was able to launch the Server admin console without problem. I've yet to see anything official from FMI, but with this newfangled community system it'd be hard to find if they had.

                  • 7. Re: Java 6 out - anyone tested it with Admin Console

thanks for pointing this out. Yes, it is unstable.

I have attached a tiny .fp7 file for reproducing the behavior. As long as you don't rescale in layout mode, close the file, change the record (e.g. enter a new location, e.g. "150 A") or add a new record, the applet in this file displays fine and even can be manipulated. Otherwise, FileMaker crashes with an error report:

Why do you feel  there is a need to upgrade? I no longer upgrade java on servers or machines that use Admin Console. In most cases Admin Console is the only thing that needs the abomination that is Java.
