Dropbox can work. Once caution, make sure Dropbox isn't syncing and saving that file while you are using it. It don't think the mobile app versions of Dropbox sync continuously, but I don't remember.
One thing you should look at is GoZync (a product by SeedCode and geist interactive).
If the files are mission critical your company should invest in a sync strategy.
Another option to consider is setting up a second database on the iPad with a script that will close the main database and then attach it to an outgoing e-mail (assuming that the employees have an e-mail account set up on the iPad and the main database is not too large).
That way the "upload" of the backup file is largly done in the background by the e-mail client, and the user doesn't have to wait for the upload/sync to finish.
We have had good success using this method.
