Is this a 64-bit version of Windows? If so, make sure you're creating a System DSN with the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator, which can usually be found at:

Doh! Yes, I had read that in training, but when I got into the heat of the battle, I had forgotten that tidbit.
I used the ODBCad32.exe utility, set up my connection and logged into the target database. Thanks for the reminder.
