It's been almost 2 years since I installed FM on my 64 bit home PC so my memory is a bit fuzzy but I don't remember encountering any problems during installation and FM has been running fine for me since then.
You might try uninstalling FM and then installing again by right-clicking on the installer executible and choosing RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. It *may* make a difference.
Thanks, good to know that it indeed installs and runs on the OS, unfortunately he just tried doing that and got the same negative results. This is a clean, fresh download from the FileMaker website and there's nothing out of the ordinary on his machine. The first time I had logged on remotely and watched it happen. The last try he was the only one on the box.
Maybe try disabling anti-virus. Personally I've not really found this to make a difference but it's worth a try.
Could a firewall be at play? Could it be a user permissions issue? Make sure the installer is an Administrator!!
Win 7 is a different beast from previous versions of Windows. I myself am running FMP11.03 on Win7(64) and have been for over a year without incident. Installation was no problem for 11.0 or any of the updates since.
Networking is much easier, but shared resources is a b….
To say the least, for windows users it’s a brave new world!!
OK, tried all this stuff and nothing BUT I went around the installer file after it failed and went right to the MSI file and used it to install.... perfect, installed right away. Thanks all for the comments. Have a great Holidays!
Glad you found the solution - apparently you're not the first to have this issue:
Like you said, open the FMCID installer folder, and run setup.exe directly from there.
Good to know, thanks
