A couple of questions
It seems you are creating a connection from FileMaker Server on a windows box to another datbase.
Is the other datbase SQL, Oracle, MySQL etc?
Using the System DSN you created on the PC Server can you ping the box the other db is on?
Can you connect with a SQL client and run SQL?
Let me know.
My bet is either a firewall or you need newer drivers for 2008.
Thanks for reply. No, we're attempting to create a connection from a SQL Server database to a FM database. We're unable to create the system DSN; it throws the "unable to connect" error when we try.
We're using the latest ODBC driver for FM 11 (the 32 bit one, since there apparently isn't a 64 bit one).
I have had problems with this also.
Not on 2008 however.
I did have problems with Firewall ports being opened but I think that was internal to us.
One catch is that the ODBC drive does not allow browsing the filemaker database.
Apparently FM did not realize people would want to do this. There is no plan to fix this problem.
We also found BRIO 9 will not connect to FileMaker.
I ended up having FileMaker Populate a SQL table that the other solution used.
Not a great solution but it serves the need.
Hm. Well, this WAS working under FM Server 10 and Windows Server 2003. Same databases on both ends. So either the driver is broke, or there's something about 2008 that breaks this.
We're also having trouble with JDBC connections.
Anybody having success with this?
Double-check the FileMaker Server Admin Console to make certain ODBC/JDBC sharing is enabled. If it is already enabled, you might try toggling it off, save, and then toggle it on again.
Also, make sure port 2399 is not blocked.
Thanks, Greg. Tried that, still no joy. Ports are open. This is happening on all our 2008 R2 boxes. Have you been able to make this work?
