    Monthly Report by Item

    jaygs

From an invoice line item file I am trying to create a report to show monthly shipped totals by item over an 18 month period.

I can show totals of a found set in a sub-summary, but this report seems to need multiple found sets to execute the monthly totals. Either that or I am missing something.

I would like it to display in a table type format as below

      Jan-2012 Dec-2011 Nov-2011 etc

      Item 1 10 15 12

      Item 2 35 20 23

Thanks in advance for any help.

          Hi jaygs,

Depending on how much trouble you want to go to, a report can be massaged into just about any format you can imagine.

However, the easiest and most common way to create a report that summarises items by two variables - in this case month and item - is to create two leading and two trailing sub-summary parts - one each for Month, and one each for Item, then simultaneosly sort by Month and Item.

Doing that will give you a report that splits the data up by months, and within each month by items - with appropriate sub-totals in the sub-summary parts for the items within each month, and overall (month) sub-totals at the end of the entries for each month. It's only a hop step and jump from where you are to that point. While it's possible, it will be a bit more work if you want to push data into the format you're currently envisaging.

          Regards,

          Ray

jaygs, go to your favorite search engine and enter 'filemaker crosstab' (no quotes). The one I tend to use is by M. Edoshin:

                Hi Chuck,

It's a worth quest. Looking forward to the day it will be rewarded!
