No "bug", that's how it is (from what I can determine).
Bummer! I hope they fix this soon. I really liked the way my database looked with the new themes.
So they create a new css based fileformat and when you try to make use of a theme in IWP, it's not working.
What's the use of new themes if I have to create an extra old-looking lay-out if I want to use IWP.
Exactly my problem.
I spent my time converting my FMP 11 theme to the new 12 theme thinking that I could add a webpage layout to the theme. So I updated my webpage layout to conform with the new theme. But now I am confronted with 'layout not supported for IWP.'
I figured that by 12.0v3 they would have updated the IWP component to use their updated themes. Is IWP dead for FMP 12? If not, what is the work around?
For now I keep a Filemaker Pro 11 iwp version live on the web with only search capabilities. But that's not a solution. That's a stop gap until I can get IWP to work. Any suggestions?
It's not a bug, it's a feature!
FileMaker has not yet intended the make available CSS on the web. It's on the specification.
I think it's a commercial step but non only. We could expect the use of CSS on the web on one of next release. CSS have problems and sometimes are slow in fmpro so I think filemaker has to do more optimization in order to implement in IWP...
I understand that it is not viewed as a bug - but it sure feels like one. Construct a website IWP page. Set up the IWP configuration. Open the page on an out of network computer. Log in. Then get an Error. And where can you go to adjust the layout or make it compatable (That's my question here). If it looks like an bug, and acts like an bug...then it is a bug.
I appreciate that a more robust method is being developed. But IWP is offered in the sharing window and is discussed in the training book for 12. And I had an expectation that the feature would work and be supported. We are now on iteration 3. What is the road map to getting 12 on IWP? If it isn't going to come then remove the feature. I didn't buy server because it is over kill for my needs. IWP worked well for me in FMP11 and when I upgraded to FMP12 the idea of new themes and a refreshed IWP to go along with it was compeling. There was nothing in the literature (training and the program itslef) to suggest that IWP wouldn't be compatable and I had every expectation that it would work. That it isn't is just frustrating and maddening. It has wasted my time and energy as well as my money. I take full responsibility for purchasing the program without fully understanding its limitations. But frankly, I don't believe I am the only one feeling suckered.
So I ask again: is there a work around to getting IWP to function in 12 besides running a shadow FMP11 as a search page only (because you know that 12 is not backward compatable).
Incompatibilites with IWP etc can be read here:
For what its worth, you can use layout elements from a theme in IWP although using the above as a guide, they may not render as expected.
Perhaps on a sample copy of solution you could try going to a layout, copying the entire layout to the clipboard
Change the theme to classic
Clear the layout
Paste the original themed layout elements back into place from the clipboard
IWP *should* then work, but will probably look awful I only tried a similar idea due to the portal row line thickness bug on Windows.
Screenshot of a quick sample I setup using 2 alternative set o fthemed objects and classic in FMP and IWP.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
