This doesn't work for TEXT only rectangle objects in FM11 Pro. The border selection works on FIELDS, but not on rectangles as individual objects. Am I missing something?

Not missing anything. Create the box and overlay a line to obscure the side you want?
Sometimes you just get creative if you really must.

Micael may have misspelled his text box,
Yes it does.
Select the Text tool.
Click on the layout.
Type some text.
Use the inspector to select line width, color, and solid/dashed. Each side can be selected to have or not have the line.
I know you specified that you're using FM11, so this doesn't directly answer your question, but for your future reference…
I just checked in FM12 and you can show/hide individual sides on the rectangular borders around a free-standing text object (i.e., created with the text tool), as well as simple rectangle objects (created with the rectangle tool).
(What's even cooler is you can non-destructively set a corner radius and then turn that on/off for individual corners. You can do this on just about any rectangular object [field, text object, rectangle, button, tab control, etc.])
what version, ch0c0? text in FM11 does not have this option. With FM12, yes it does.
Bev and significant others,
Mea culpa, FMP11 does NOT have that ability. Another reason to upgrade to FMP12 ASAP. §^=)
<rant>Unfortunately the original email did not include that part of the mesage. Is the signature a good place to put "using FMP11". I mean really. Who even looks at signatures let alone for significant information? </rant>
Thanks ch0c0halic for your helpful suggestion.
I am looking forward to upgrading to FM12 once I get the opportunity. And yes, I originally did not have the "Using FM Pro 11" in the original query. I apologize for adding that in more recently after your suggestion about the new features in FM12.
P.S. I always read signatures. They are very infomative. .
