Does it rely on DTD or XSD?
Do you manually do the import? Or is it scripted, and if so did you check the script for valid paths?
Are you using an XSLT? If so, does it reference the filemaker file correctly? Make a sample export FROM fm12 to compare how the import should appear.

The FMPDSORESULT is NOT a valid format for IMPORT into FileMaker. You must use the FMPXMLRESULT to import.
See these help pages:
I tried both formats and none worked. However, I noticed that when I changed the xml file's encoding format to utf-8 using bbedit, it worked (although the first line in the xml file already states:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>). In Filemaker 11 it doesnt seem to look at the actual file's format.
Interesting! IF you export from FileMaker 12 (with FMPXMLRESULT), you're still saying that you cannot import the same file without the BBEdit trip?
Sounds like the BOM problem we had a few years back. (look up Byte Order Mark - BOM). If it's not correct, I forsee all kinds of problems...
