is there any way i can upload more than 10 documents one single database

    umamaheswari.rajendhran

      Hi all,

I am new to Filemaker. I want to build a database that has full of documents. We got so many courses in my training company

      For Example:

      Diploma in Aged care

      Document 1 - filename1.pdf

      Document 2 - filename2.pdf

      Document 3 - filename3.pdf

      Document 4 - filename4.pdf

      Document 5 - filename5.pdf

      Document 6 - filename6.pdf

      Document 7 - filename7.pdf

I want a layout something like this. We got two admin persons to upload the documents and rest of the staff should have permission only to open the document(when they click on the file name it should open the document)

I just want the file name to be visible thats it i dont want like big container field.

Can anyone please help me with this?

      Thanks in advance

      Cheers

      Sumi

          Hi Sumi,

What version of FileMaker are you working in?

For FileMaker 11 I would recommend SuperContainer or DocuBin from 360works.com. For FileMaker 12 you can use either that or you can play with the new container field feature in 12 itself.

I DO NOT recommend storing documents in your FileMaker solution, because it will bloat your file.

          Best regards,

            Hi Ariley,

Thanks for your very quick Response.

I am using Filemaker 12. I am planning for instant web publishing these documents so that all staff in my compnay they open the document and print it. Can just guide me how to designt his layout?

            Thank you

            Cheers

            uma

I can't really guide you on how to design your layout beyond that you need a table and a portal for the document records and you'll show them on your course layout possibly.

Try playing with the container field in FM 12.

I would stay away from Instant Web Publishing; I never had much muck with it.

              Best,

              Agi

To be able to load multiple documents for a single course, make the documents a related table, so you can create related records for the course as you need to add documents.

Put the container field in the related record, one field, multiple related records.

This way you don't have to pre-determine how many containers you may need for a course, just add related records as needed.

But, yes, it can bloat your file. Look into the external storage options in File > Manage > Containers.
