"General Notes for interactive containers
- You cannot work interactively with container fields that are in portals"
Does your solution get around this?
Yes I open pdf as well as pictures etc in the portal using filemaker 12
I'm not sure I have followed your instructions correctly
I've added a Field Named
ContainerName with the container field as the calculation and checked the box calculation is a result of a container field.
What I'm having a problem with is the Set Variable[$ContainerField;"\\"&ContainerName
What Value go's in the Name Field
What do I enter into in the Value Field
Hi John, so let me start by saying the info I explaining is if you want to open a pdf that is in a portal or not. You will only see the pdf icon in the portal. The script run will open the pdf in adobe. I make the container field a clear button so you can drag a pdf into it and then when you click on the container field it activates the button and runs the script. I hope we are on the same page. Set Variable $ContainerField copies the the 2 forward slashes and concatenates with the value in the Calculated field you created. So if you did the calculation right it will show
So again the local variable $ContainerField holds the name of the pdf in it. That way it knows which pdf to open. You should be able to see the results in the open url if you don’t check the dialog box on it. Also see it it the data viewer if you are using FMP Advanced. This is what your calculation in the new field you made (ContainerName) or what ever you called it. I called my WorkSheetName. The Bid_WorkSheet is the field that holds the pdf in it.
Just look at the highlight code
This is what the url should look like if you have the dialog box unchecked
So when I click on the container it runs the script and the pdf opens. Not sure this is what you are looking for or not.

How can you get the path of the file in the URL? My PDF files are stored within the database filed not exteranlly.
Thanks a lot.
