Are you using a pre-Release version? Pre-releases are expected to expire, though I don't know when.
If the public release, more details: OS version, FM Server type (Adv?).
Can you restart it or is the Admin console not repsonding?
The devil's in the details....
Hi Stephen, no this is the regular version and we are using FileMaker 12 Regular version.....It just all of a sudden quite and I tried restarting computer. I see the sample file is working ok
admin console seems ok... I go into Adimistration:Databases and the Status is closed but FMServer_Sample.fmp12 status is normal
I'm thinking I may have to reinstall the Filemaker Server 12....I've been using it since the day it came out and has been working fine. I guess I could try and see if a backup copy of the database will work.
One of your notes is that the Server is running with the Sample file "normal" but your own file(s) are "Closed"...
Are the closed files in the same directory with the sample file? If not, can you move them to the default directory?
Is the Admin console responding, or can you not restart the closed files?
What does the server log say?? You do have logging on, right??
I had to take a break. Filemaker 12 is running its the database that won't open. It says status closed. Not sure what that means. I'm going to try and drop backup copy and see what happens. I'm thinking that the database may be corrupt.
From reading this I get this impression, please tell me if I misunderstand:
- The Server is running
- The sample database is running
- Your own database(s) are not running (closed)
Do not reinstall server. If this is a correct description, then there is a problem with the files and not with the server.
- Right click on the database in the admin console and choose "open"
- Check the log and tell us the result.
There is a chance that your files are damaged, and then there are some very important advice to follow. But for now lets know the result of this.
You can try to open the files just with the client, fmp 12. Please do take a copy - do not touch your originals. What is the result of this?
Awaiting your feedback
Ps. And please: Make sure to take your latest verified backup copy (and some of the previous versions) and move them to a safe place while going though this process.
Hello everyone. I got it back up and running....I didn't read Carsten reply till this morning. The database was corrupted. I don’t have a clue as why. What I did was stop the server and the moved the database to my personal computer and tried to open it. I received an error message to the effect that I needed to try and recover it and that is what I did. The data file is a little over 3 gb is size and took about an hour to recover it. After recovering it I moved the recovered version back to the server and started Filemaker 12 server back up. I would be interested in the proper procedure and hopefully I did it right. The database seems to be working fine today. Thank you everyone for your help with this issue!
In 11 it was recommended that a recovered database not be used. Instead, recover the corrupt version and then import the data into an uncorrupted clone or earlier uncorrupted backup.
I haven't seen any FileMaker recommendations on 12, but you might want to consider doing this. I know... with 3 gbytes of data it can take a while to import.
Thanks Bruce, I think you are on the right path. I hadn't thought of importing the data to a backup. Sounds like a plan. I will do that
This was the reason for me to ask the questions and urge you not to do anything before knowing:-)
You must find one of the backups from before the problem occurred. Then export the data from each table and import them into the version that was not damaged.
This is important if this database is crucial for your company - and if you want to be able to use it for years to come.
Have a look here:
Thanks Carsten, much appreciated!
