Assuming u r using fm11 and beyond,
In the portal setup (referring to ur portal displaying notes),
Click portal filtering.
In the calculation field where it says records will display when.
Not IsEmpty (field name u want to drive the decision e.g. NOTES::name)
There are some behaviors to become aware of when using filtered portals.
Side note - u will probably want to add an easy way of toggling this filter on and off so u can see empty records for housecleaning , etc.
In this case, add a global field to ur primary table called gViewfilter or the likes.
Set it to be a popdown with a value list that offers "on,off" as the available options.
Put a script trigger on this field (which is now presumably on ur layout visible as a toggle switch of sorts).
set the trigger to fire when field is modified, having it fire a script u will make which does nothing more than commit record.
Change the portal setup filter calculation to read:
Now u can flip the light switch on/off
"Could someone please help me select and build the necessary function."
Why do you have note records that have no notes?
It's pretty hard to guess all the ways that you might have built your file; so it will be a lot easier to help if you provide a copy of your file or a simplified example.
This has worked perfectly...
Thank you very much.
I'm going to have a go at the on/off toggle tomorrow. It willl be a good exercise for me.
Thanks for replying but I've managed to get the problem solved with an earlier reply.
