using FileMaker 11 Advanced on Windows and need an access to some tables on a Sybase ADS. I've installed the Advantage ODBC Driver, but FileMaker does'nt support this.
Is that right? Any other solution?
FileMaker supports ODBC and each ODBC driver comes from the server software company. If you have the correct Sybase driver then you need to configure the driver and most drivers also have a test function. After you installed it, did you set it up by pointing it to the Sybase server? You may need to put in a user I'd and password. If you think you have it installed correctly and FM is not seeing it, then try another program like Excel. If it doesn't see it either, then it is not a FM problem, it is your ODBC setup. Please note that Sybase is not supported by ESS, so all you can do is import and export data from Sybase.
Make sure that, when configuring your DSN for that driver, you specify it as a system DSN for FileMaker to see it.
I need full access, so I need another solution. (import/export doesn't work for that).
So thank for your help!
Thanks, but now I'll realize that with the Advantage PHP Driver as a web solution. That's fine for my client.
But if there is another way to access the ADS with FileMaker, I'm very interested in this...
I agree that ODBC import/export is not near as nice as ESS. I secretly have been hoping FileMaker was going to expand its ESS to other things like Sybase and Postgres, but nothing new happened on this upgrade. That means all we have are import and exports via ODBC. In reality, if you need live access interacting with SQL data on Sybase, then FileMaker is not the best tool and you should be looking for another UI. But while you're thinking about it, go to FileMaker tool bar at the top, go to the far right under Help, and select "Provide FileMaker Feedback" and ask for ESS for Sybase. I already did this as well as for Postgres.
Ok, I'll do that and hopefully the next update will fix this...
