I was wondering if anybody knows a way to go directly to the camera instead
of entering a container and selecting the camera each time. This is for FM Go 12.

Bump... Same here, i would like to launch the camera app from a script. Is there a way?
Ditto. (Except I want to go straight to the signature capture feature every time.)
Same here. I don't think there is a way to retreive, but I have seen a way to capture signatures here. It's called GoSign.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, Jason. That looks like just what I need.
Not sure how Mr. Geist accomplished this engineering feat, but if this is possible, perhaps a similar approach could be used to access the camera directly?
From what I've found out, the camera is tied to OS, so unless there is an explicit way to call the camera up facilitated by FileMaker directly, I don't think it's possible. I'm quite surprised FMI didn't at least provide script steps such as "Launch Camera" or "Get Signaure". This is a good example of when you appreciate what FileMaker executed, BUT you wish they had gone a little bit further.
Well, there's certainly no lack of iOS apps that *are* able to access the camera/photo library directly, so there's no good reason I can see for FileMaker *not* to do the same. Perhaps this is something that FileMaker might be convinced to include as a feature in a future update? Where would be the best place to lodge such a request?
I agree with you Paul. As a rule of thumb, I wouldn't count on FMI to necessarily release anything you're hoping for in the future though. It's been a good practice to have low expectations for new releases. I'm sure other developers can echo this sentiment. This may change in the future though, but only time will tell. Some FileMaker releases have been great and others have been lackluster.
For feature requests, your best bet is to submit them to: https://www.filemaker.com/company/contact/feature_request.html

Ah! Which is why I'm spending all my free time (and then some) learning how to write apps natively in Cocoa, isn't it? ;-)
OTOH, hope springs eternal and all that, so thanks for the link!
UPDATE: here is the text of my Feature Request:
Title/Summary: Ability to Specify Container Field Action via Script Step or Setting
Request: Container fields on a layout are almost always intended to store a single media type, yet in FileMaker Go 12, the user is forced to choose the desired media type from a pop-over menu for each new record.
Please consider including a setting and/or script step that would allow the developer to pre-define the default action when selecting a container field. For instance, to go directly to the signature capture screen, or directly to the camera/photo library.
If anyone else would like to second the motion, please feel free to use my words verbatim, or as a basis for your own submission.
I have submitted a request as well.
Has anyone looked into using the iOS URL Scheme to accomplish this? CNS Barcode uses this method to call their app directly from Filemaker Go and pass data back to FM Go after the barcode is scanned. I wonder if this or something similar could also be done with the native camera App? Perhaps there is a third party camera app out there would support this feature?
I don't think there's a registered URL scheme for iOS camera roll / camera.
At least it's not on this list that I frequent:
It's also not listed in apple's iOS developers guide (though other schemes are):
In terms of helper apps, it IS plausible to build an app that after a picture is snapped, launches an FMP:// link with a package to pull into a container field.
There's already some helper apps for filemaker out there (FMNotify was demo'd at devcon last year, and has recently been updated by a friend of mine, Dave Ramsey http://ww.eandmspecialty.com/FMNotify/ )
The problem with a helper camera app is handling the link back into filemaker GO.
