What are the reasons for requiring Service Pack 3 when running FileMaker 12 under Windows XP? Is there any way to run it under Service Pack 2?
I'm pretty sure it won't run under previous Service packs. Service Pack 3 had significant security changes due to some real vulnerabilities in previous versions. You can always give it a try, but I'd put my money on it not working. If you're interested in what was fixed in Service Pack 3, visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480 There were quite a few programs that worked fine under Service Pack 2 that broke under Service Pack 3 until upgrades came out and that is probably true of FileMaker too.
SP2 was released in 2005 or so? Why would you deny a machine 7 years of big fixes, security fixes and performance improvements? Why would you not want SP3 on your machines?
I don't think it will install under SP2 as I recall I've tried it and it was a no go. It's just standard policy when any new software comes out to support the last vevision of a sunsetted OS for XP that means SP3. We're just lucky that 12 still supports an OS that old still.
