This is a bit tricky - it requires three fields:
sCount - Summary, Count of [any field that cannot be empty]
cInvCount - Calculation = 1 / GetSummary ( sCount ; Category )
sCategoryNum - Summary, Total of cInvCount, running
The last field will provide the current category's ordinal number.
Thanks for the reply. Worked well after a tweak.
When only 1 section was represented, the sequence failed. Added a conditional which solved the problem. Perhaps dependent on trailing or leading sub-summary section?

Failed in what way? I don't see any problem with a found set of one category only - leading or trailing.
I was looking a similar solution...........worked like a charm.
