Are you using Drop-down list or Pop-up Menu? Use your primary key as you originally did, but change the format of the field and see what happens.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Ok...I will check now.
I am using Drop Down List.....
I have changed to Pop Up and no change.....
I am unable to change the field formatting as, from within Inspector, the
Data Formatting section at the bottom is Greyed Out.
Any other advice please???
Thanks in advance!
Just watched the video. I think you are getting confused by the value list options. The reason the relationship fails after you change the value list definition is that the value that ends up in the primary key field has no match over in the companies table.
So whatever you do you have to make sure that the first field in the 2nd column gets a key, not a company name. If you want your users to not see those keys then you have to leave the value list definition intact except for "only show values from 2nd field) and change the dropdown to a pop-up on the layout. That will only display company names in the list but the underlying field will still be populated with the corresponding key for that company.
Another way of doing the same thing is to show a new window listing the companies and do the selection by script. This should give you more control, more display options and all of that. A bit more work though.
Again, thanks for your quick response. Your explanation seems to make sense!
I am on holiday so will check it out when I return.
