FMS12 Admin Console unable to launch after Java update

    kmtenor

I got a notice this morning that Java wanted to be updated on my workstation. I allowed the Java install to continue, and now have JVM 1.6.0_33. Unfortunately, because this was an incremental Java update, there doesn't appear to be a way to roll back to the previously installed version (as there would be going from one major release to another).

Prior to the update, I had no trouble launching FMS12 Admin Console. Now, when I try to launch it, I get the following error:

"Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system. Unsigned resource: http://fms12:16000/admin-client-lib/admin-console-client.jar"

The full Exception is pasted at the end of this post. I'm guessing this has something to do with new restrictions added in the latest version of Java. We have 1.6.0_25 on the server itself, and the Admin Console runs fine there.

Has anybody else had this trouble? Is there a workaround?

      Thanks.

      -Kevin

Deleting the cached version and reinstalling from the server solved the problem.  On Windows, go to Control Panels-> Java Control Panel -> General and in the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click "View".  Find the instance of FMS Console you are having trouble with, click on it, and click the "X" at the top of the screen to delete it.  Then, hit your server using http://<servername>:16000" and click "Start Admin Console" to re-download the java startup file and reinstall the application.

Mac users, check out this thread for where to find the cached files.

          Thanks.

Kevin may need a different cup of Java,

In cases where the user can't get it working the problem is almost always because they haven't cleared the caches and applications from the Java Preferences and are attempting to use the old Java app with an updated Java library. The Java update doesn't remove/update the Java apps already downloaded.

Open up the Java admin app (not the Server admin app) and delete any Java caches.

Use the Security Tab and delete all FileMaker Site references.

Use the Network Tab and click the "Delete Files ..." button to remove all cache files.

On OSX this is administrated through the Java Preferences Application found in:

            Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences
