Scripting go to Layout via $variable

What am I doing wrong? Is it me? Okay, I know that I am getting a little long in the tooth to be trying any scripting... my concentration is so... whatever.

Here is my problem: I make a simple script to set a variable and go to a layout using layout name by calculation.

Set Variable [$layout; Value: Get (ScriptParameter)]

Go to Layout [$layout]

The script parameter is the contents of a global field. When the global has a value of "HOME" and a layout is named "home" the script works and I land on "Home".

When the global is "CUSTOMER" and the layout is named "customer" all is well.

However, if I change the value of the global to "CUSTOMERS" and the name of the layout to "customers" the script fails with an error of 105, layout not found. This is true for "PRODUCT" vs. "PRODUCTS" and for "SUPPLIERS" vs. SUPPLIER"

Is it me?
