I have a hosted file on FM 12 server on a Windows 7
I want to press a button and have a File exported from a container field and have it saved on the desktop of the server.
Hmmm... a server is supposed to run with no user logged into its OS. And the desktop is user specific. Something is not quite ok here i think.
Can you explain the logic a litte more?
Basically I need this. User put in a picture. At some pint I need the file Name to be changed. And the file moved. I do know how to do this on a server.

Use Troi File to move the file and rename or something that I've done in the past is...
Import the file
Calculate the new file name, stick it in a variable
Immediately export the field contents to the Temporary path with the calculated field name
Re-import from the Temp path (you have the name and path in the variable)
Export field contents is not supported by the server. If you need the file to be renamed and moved by the server you can do it with an operating system script, but the file has to be in a directory. I would try using the new FM12 external containers to put files in a directory instead of embedding them in a container field. That way your script will have access to them.
That works. You can use the ScriptMaster plugin too.
What would be the text for script master.
We do have a Hard drive on our filemaker 10 server for third party images, that is shared by everyone
I use Applescript to move, display and rename them
> At some pint I need the file Name to be changed. And the file moved.
I am using Server 12 and I would like to use scriptmaster. But I am not getting the filepath correct.
post the string you are using as the filepath, so we can see it. It's often just a matter of an extra backslash
> But I am not getting the filepath correct.
C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Data\Databases\Company\RC_Data_FMS\Company\Files\Company\Product\KeyPhoto
That's odd. Are you trying to hack into the FM 12 stored container data ? Not a good idea
Not quite. I want to copy the file with a new name and put it somewhere else.
Have you tried to manually move or rename a file in its external container storage area?
Once you try to rename or move a file, the FileMaker view of the container field shows a cross with text to explain that the file has been tampered with and will no longer be available.
You will have to find a different method.

I dont want to do this manually. I need to keep track of file paths.
Here is what I want to do. Users are putting in lots of photos. They are somewhat random in the names. I want to organize them in folders and with a naming convention. I want to COPY the file then rename it. The original can stay in place on the filemaker server. I want this automated, not manual
