    Problem with IIS and IWP

    Lemmtech

My client is running FMSA 11.309 on Windows 2008 r2 Standard and using IWP to pubish a small Filemaker solution to the web using a subdomain. The URL call looks like this:

      https://signup.waltmanconstruction.com/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=WebDrivewayMaster&-loadframes

Everything was working fine until one of the drives in the server failed and needed to be replaced and as a result the ISS configuration got wiped out. I didn't set this up in the first place and have no idea how to properly configure IIS to work with a subdomain and IWP. I have tried a few things but nothng seems to be working to get the URL to resolve and load properly. Any help to steer me in the right direction would be appreciated!

          Howdy

So how far have you got…?

Is IIS reinstalled on the server…? it looks like it is...

Does it respond to requests on http://localhost with the IIS welcome screen…? (it looks like it will since http://signup.waltmanconstruction.com/ will provide it externally

Clicking the link in your message doesn't get me very far, but I suspect that's because the SSL certificate and bindings for https haven't been put back in the IIS config…?

Accessing http://signup.waltmanconstruction.com/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=WebDrivewayMaster&-loadframes (non-https) gives a 404, which would be correct if the FMS config hasn't been done, since the Tomcat ISAPI filter which will handle the /fmi URLs

The FMS deployment wizard requires that IIS has a 'Default Web Site' entry, so I would leave IIS as it is, and get the link to FM back in place first if I were you.

If the FMS install hasn't been 'damaged' in this process (I can't tell from here, but from your message it sounds like not), and IIS is freshly installed and working (which it appears to be), then redoing the deployment from the FM Admin console should reconnect FMS and IIS. Log in to the FM admin console, and in the bottom right corner of the main panel on the home screen is a link which says Edit Server Deployment. Click that, and follow through the prompts…

This should get you back to the point where http://signup.waltmanconstruction.com/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=WebDrivewayMaster&-loadframes will work again.

Then you need to get the SSL cert and setup back in place. See http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/144/how-to-set-up-ssl-on-iis/ for details on how to go about re-enabling SSL. Thos instructions are for IIS 7, but 7 and 7.5 are very similar and it should make enough sense if you've got 7.5…

          HTH

          Cheers

          Steve

Thanks Steve for your help I really appreciate it. I am unable to uninstall/reinstall IIS for some reason as it doesn't appear in the list of roles when I attempt to do that. yes I did the server redeployment and it gave me an error -30 connection refused and then when I when to reconfigure the website IIS said the site didn't exist and it removed my entire configuration. This client is 150 miles from me so I have been trying to do all this remotely and am workign with local IT guys to try and get out and solve the ISS problems since I know nothing about how to con figure and set that stuff up. I'll let you know how it turns out.

              Hi Steve,

Still no luck. I have IIS working again it appears and set the bindings for 443 and the SSL cert although I don't know if I did that right. When I redo the server deployment I get the following screens:

              Waltman_FMS_Passed.jpg

Which seems to be ok but then I get this error

              Waltman_IWP_Error.jpg

So at this point i am stuck. I suppose I could reinstall FMS but something tells me that wouldn't fix the problem but I am open to suggestions. Thanks for your help.

Did you ever get this resolved...? For what it's worth I suspect that your issue may be as simple as DNS and routing... for the purposes of the deployment, try using just http, and the IP address of the server and see if you can get the deployment to complete. Having done that, then look to access the web server using https...

                Cheers

Yes I did. With the help of a local IT guy we uninstalled IIS twice, uninstalled Jave and FMS and then reinstalled everything and reconfigured IIS to point to the subdomain and got it working again. I really appreciate your advice on all this. As soon as I am able ma going to work with a web guy to separate out her web needs from FileMaker, This customer is in a unique situation and as such sholdn't be hosting their own IWP page. I am not the comfortable putting FM on the web so will see to farm that piece out to someone else and just have FM retrieve the data needed from the web. Thanks again!

Glad to hear you got it working - sounds like it was quite a drama.
