In my view it is always better to store externally. You can use SuperContainer from 360works.com or in FMP12 it is stored externally.
Check the pro's and cons of FMP12 vs SuperContainer:
so you can weigh your options and make a decision.
Storing internally is OK for a small number of records with small container objects.
More than that and files become huge and make copies to test changes is slower and slower.
Imortantly, if the conatiner contents are corrupted it is quite diffcult to remove them: Usually Filemaker crashes as soon as you load the record.
About the only time I recommend storing data in container fields internally is when you're storing domain information - graphics you use for your interface, icons, that sort of thing. Everything else is generally better stored externally to avoid database bloat and potential corruption issues.
Just my $0.02.
This was helpful thanks!
Thanks for the advice. We know we have to go to external storage. I'm just trying to weigh the options of Super Container, Filemaker twelve external secure storage and open storage and what I need to have the system work as if this was never done.
You all have been really helpful.
