I've been asked to make our database global via the webpublishing in Filemaker. I'd like to see what websites people have published using Filemaker. A simple link to the page so I can take a look would be very helpful. Thanks,
I run my ministry with a FileMaker back end. www.threecornerstones.com.
Can I ask, you use the custom web publishing option correct?
Yes, that's correct.
All of my IWP examples are behind firewalls, as they are internal only, sorry!
But with careful planning you can create some useful IWP with FM!
Read the Web publishing & server guides (all of them) to get some helpful information. Some will be trial-and-error for you. Mostly make sure objects and scripts and functions are "web compatible" (regardless of IWP/CWP). The guides will help you with that. IWP "locally" (to your desktop directly from FMP or FMPAdvanced to test!
Beverly is correct. I would just add one thing to watch out for with IWP: Make sure you add explicit Commit Record steps in your scripting in places where you ordinarily wouldn't need them, because the IWP engine doesn't have the auto-commit feature the FileMaker client enjoys.
When creating in IWP does the page come out looking like the layout with out the menu bar at the top or is the menu bar included? My sales team doesn't need to know how the info go there they will only need to be able to find information which can be done with the use of buttons and drop downs. So in other words if I can make the layout look like a webpage and then do IWP eliminating the menus that would be fantastic. Please advise.
IWP mimics the layout in FileMaker (mostly). You can hide the status area with the appropriate script step. However, if you do so, be sure to provide buttons that do the same thing so your users don't get stuck - including a way for them to log out of the database.
Check out the Web Publishing Guide for more information.
We have developed and run several CWP-driven websites (XML/XSLT or PHP) of various complexity:
http://www.ropeways.ethz.ch/ (Ropes and Ropeways Literature)
http://www.clicaps.ethz.ch/en/ (Library information System)
http://www.infochembio.ethz.ch/en/textbooks.html (Textbook portal)
http://www.properties.ethz.ch/en/ (Physical Properties Source Index)
GIS-based navigation with FileMaker database as back-end (the Java certificate may be outdated, just accept it):
Impressive. I have to say that we are probably going with a layout much like the card catalog search engine for the libraries. I'm doing the research now. I have some design background but have to say I haven't done a website to this magnitude so might need to do a layout design and bring a pro for the web specific stuff. Unless I can figure out where I need the scripting to be in order to do it IWP.
Anyone have experience with upgrading their server to FM Advanced?
I saw some other forums on that and I'll have to check those out as well.
That's why I recommend reading the guides. You can have a default layout and default script when the database is opened. This is also used by IWP too. Ypu can HIDE the status' in that script and it will be hidden in IWP. You must supply controls on the IWP layout if you hide them. You'll find all this info in the IWP guide (PDF)!

The web site for my wife's business http://www.breastfeedingoutlook.com is FileMaker driven using CWP and PHP. All using FX.php now, but I'm starting to use the FileMaker API on newer sections being developed.
