    Newbie needs assistance with Calendar

    jueker

      Hi al!

I am new to Filemaker and am in the process of learning to develop an DB app for the iPad. I have run into a snag trying to incorporate a calendar into FM12.

I have done a search in the Technet forum and there are a few paid plugins there. While I am sure they are great apps, my intention is build my own app (naive?).

Where is the best place to look for plugin design and hooks to Filemaker.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Calendars are considerably tougher than you'd imagine.

I'd forget trying to create your own (admirable, but ambitious) and take a look at the SeedCode products. You also can't use plugins in FileMaker Go.

            Thank You David.

I have been combing through the forums and that it is tough to design a calendar seems to be the consensus.

Now when you say that Filemaker Go cannot use plugins, isn't the Seedcode product a plugin to Filemaker Pro? If that is the case, would I be better served to develop an iPad app that is a  portal  accessing the Filemaker server data and bypass Filemaker Go?

Allen, why don't you check it out and see if it works for you.

                Thank you Beverly.

I have looked at their site and will evaluate the calendar.

                  Hi Allan,

No, it's a FileMaker file. If I recall correctly, there is a free version of Calendar and the "Complete" with some really useful features has a ten day trial period.

                  Test drive it.

                  Best wishes,

This is a matter of terminology.

In FileMaker-speak, a plug-in is usually defined as an external addition to FileMaker that provides extra functionality - think any of the Troi, 360 Works or 24U products to name a few.

The SeedCode products are FileMaker files that do not use any external additions - they are native FileMaker files that through incredible coding provide a lot of functionality.

Something like SeedCode calendar (and the like) are more "bolt-on" products than "plug-in" products.
