What is the key to a FIND when I want to select the first letter of the first word in a field and return only those records? The normal find will return records for any words with that first character in the field.
Thanks. Cordially Dave
Here's what worked for me Dave:
After entering Find Mode, enter [=X*] the text between the [ ] characters, where X is the character you are looking for which STARTS the text field.
In the example above, let's suppose you have three records with the following values in a text field-Ray
Joe plays the Xylophone
Tree innards contain Xylem
Using the find criteria above, the ONLY found record will be the record containing X-Ray in the text field.
Joe plays the Xylophone and Tree innards contain Xylem will not be in the found set.
Hope this helps.
Mmmm... Doesn't work for me. It does as at least I would expect, find all records where any word in the field begins with the letter. [FMPA 11, Mac OS 10.7]
Hello - so sorry - try [==X*] entered in your find field.
I just created a test database, ran the find criteria in the prior line, and found ONE record.
Regards and sorry - fm4alluvu
That seems to work fine. Thanks. Cordially, Dave Wilson
