Using lat, long info in Filemaker Go to determine location in shape file, and a related value

I have a shapefile that, in combination with a .dbf file, shows the various geographic units/polygons in my county and their associated soil types. I've developed a Filemaker Go app for forestry data entry, and I'd like to have the device's GPS lookup the soil value based on the data from this shapefile.

I can import the .dbf stuff into Filemaker easily enough, but this merely tells me that SoilType X is associated with GeographicUnit Y. I'd like to be able to figure out if my lat/long coordinates are in GeographicUnit Y.

I think that if we can accomplish that, there's a whole *universe* of data out there currently available in GIS formats that would be invaluable to the Filemaker community. Oddly, my searches haven't turned up much discussion about this. I suspect that with FM Go bringing mapping into the FM world, this'll be a hotter topic over time.
