A multi-user (up to 20) database (A) uses another database (B) of 180,000 records as a reference point to look up additional data. The relationship is based on National Insurance numbers and is used to populate names and addresses in Database A. If more than two users key a NI number in Database A at the same time, both sit for minutes with the dreaded coffee cup whereas a single users response is normally instant. The more concurrent users, the longer the wait. I'm assuming some sort of contention is happening but it is rendering the system almost useless. I've tried removing and replacing the index from the field but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Both databases are hosted on a networked Filemaker Server 10 and using Filemaker 10 on thin client Windows XP workstations - if that helps.
Does anyone have any ideas please?
