Was this a FileMaker release, or someone else's runtime solution for file conversion?
I cannot find any ref to this utility on the FMI website.
Also, if all it did was convert the files to the FMP12 format, it would not need to be updated to 12v3 as the conversion process of the data file itself should be the same for any rev of 12. It is my understanding that running the resulting file under different revs is what results in the various version/updating issues.
This was a FileMaker release but now i can't find anything about it either. It was designed to convert large databases from FP7 to FP12 and it works great. It runs as 64-bit and so uses a ton of Ram so converting large files is way faster. I'll try to upload the documentation to this post.
Thanks for the tidbit about the conversion process being the same between versions. That is my main worry.
I uploaded a copy of the Standalone Converter
Isn't this for paid technet members??
I believe so, but then so is this forum area is it not?
Although an upload was not necessary since the official download links are published under the "My Software" section of this site anyway for those with access to it.
Hi Beverly, my mistake of course it is.
For some reason I thought there where 2 forum areas, one for subscribers and one for everybody else (not including the other official FM Forum) similar to how we have one for the Dev subscription and one for the FBA subscription. Ive not been without a technet / dev subscription for quite some time though, so was just assuming
Reading the comparison it seems non subscribers still get access to the standalone convertor etc so linking to the location to find these would have been more desirable than just providing the mac download and missing out on the other information provided with the official links.
Just to be clear, I have no problem either way personally, But since I knew where to find it, I was just providing the proper source for those interested.
I remember reading somewhere of a reason why the standalone convertor was only released via here, rather than say their public facing download area, I think it was to do with how it could be confusing or something along those lines.. although I cant seem to find this, maybe I imagined it
Thanks for clearing this up - that the standalone converter utilty is available with the paid membership. I have never had that membership but was originally given the rights to download the utility. FileMaker must of changed the apps privilege after they released it.
That being said, does anyone know if the utility was ever upgraded?
Its still a version 1 file according the the "My software" area, the notes where updated on the 26th of November (not sure what changed) but
I dont think the convertor has or needed to be. I have not used it myself.
The article states if you dont meet the requirements for the standalone utility to use at minimum 12v2 which suggests to me that it is at least the equivalent of converting with 12v2. I dont think (I may be wrong) that anything has changed conversion wise between 12v2 and 12v3.
Steve, thanks for checking!
