How to create a "family" portal

    cjm.mars@gmail.com

Hello, I am designing a database in Filemaker for my church. We are initially going to use it to track members and guests. I am creating a layout to view all the members right now. I would like to have a section on the layout that shows who the family members of an indivdual are. It would be nice to be able to click on the family member and view the layout for that person. I have address information and would like Filemaker to assume that if people are living at the same address, they are family members.

How could I do this? Should I create a seperate "family" table and use a portal?

      Thanks!

Yes, I would recommend using a separate family table, and storing the address there.

Do you have any people (kids) from divorced families, who would need 2 addresses, as is the case with shared custody? If so, you may need to use a linking table to create a many-to-many relationship between Members and Families.
