Separation model - tables and relationships link

    phanh

      Hello,

Hope someone has experience with separation model can help us with the relationship linkage. We have a volunteer database and we would like to use separation model so we can continue send out updates without having to import all the data.

So, we follow this instruction to create a separation model db from an existing solution. http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/82917-creating-a-separation-model-from-an-existing-solution/

So at the moment, we don't have any table in the GUI db and a couple tables in the data db. Here is the screenshot.

For the GUI to access the data, the tables need to be linked to the GUI db. So we did that. All these tables are from the data db.

We are having the issue of not able to access the data in the data db. Volunteers can go through the registration process and data is written into tables in data db (confirmed through data export). But when we try to access the data through layout from the GUI db, we receive error "This operation could not be completed because the target is not part of a related table." At the moment, the data db doesn't have any relationship mapped. According to filemakermagazine, it seems that we must create a tabe with global variables to store the data temporaly.

Any help explaining the basic conversion process and tables and relationship linkage for separation model is appreciated.
