    CNS Audit plugin?

    dscott23

I've been trying to get this to work in my DB for a couple of days. I've read and followed the setup document. I make a change to a record and I check the audit log and it is empty.

CNS support has not gotten back to me ( I left them several emails and a voice message yesterday)

I'm finding the statememt below to be funny at this point.

      Features

      - Easy Setup - You can literally start keeping an Audit Trail of your

database within a minute of installing CNS Audit.

You should check in the forums where CNS links to on their site:

          http://www.cnsplug-ins.com/Plug-ins/CNS_Audit/Forum

Not sure how many people around here have experience with CNS audit implementation.

This seems like less of a question and more of a statement. CNS states "You can literally start", not "will". Audit trailing is an insanely complex feature to add, and the installation can be easy (say for instance if you have one table with 20 fields) or extremely taxing (multiple files, dozens of tables, hundreds of fields). It's unfair to jump to a conclusion that it's the plugin developer's fault that this was not an instantly working feature in your system.

Is the sample file that comes with CNS Audit working for you? If so, then it would stand to reason that something with the installation into your database is incomplete and you need to start troubleshooting there.

Yes the sample DB is working for me.  My issue with that sample is that it is restricted…can’t get into the nut & bolts to help figure out what is different with my DB.

Sometimes you really need to know what is going on behind the scenes and the debugger is a great feature to let you go step by step through scripts to see what is happening (or not happening).  Is there any chance you have access to FileMaker Pro Advanced?  While it is not a requirement, such features in the Advanced version make developing a lot easier.  If you plan to do much development work, you might consider upgrading since it will help trouble shoot situations like this.

Could you possible post the script that is running when you create a record so we could take a guess at things?  One issue with CNS and other audit plugins is that they usually require users to have privilege groups that cannot create or delete records and you have to use their scripts to do these functions so that they will recorded in the audit log.  Could it be that you are in [Full Access] mode and you are creating a new record without using their script to create a new record?

I went through the install again and I now have it running…somewhat

The log now reflects all changes that I made to the main table from my “admin” account.

Issues…another user logged in and made a change and that change showed up in the log as having been made by my “admin” account.

Issues #2  I made a change to another table that I set up for audit..that change never showed up on the log.

                    Progress☺
