You will need a copy of FM somewhere between v7 and 11 to convert to .fp7. Convert to that format first, and then you should be able to convert to .fmp12.
Thanks for your response. I already have fmp 11 but this application does not open. Please advice the method of conversion.
The advice is this... you MUST CONVERT the .fp5 to .fp7 (using any version 7 - 11 ), then you MUST use FMP12 to CONVERT the .fp7 file to .fmp12. There is no way to 'open' a .fp5 or .fp7 file in fmp12, the conversion steps must be done.
If fp7 does not convert your fp5 file, then the fp5 file may be damaged.
If you just double-click a file to open it (is that what you are doing?), it will generally just look for the creating application. To open the file in different application: First, open then application. Then, use File > Open... to locate and open the file you want. The one issue you could run into is if you have a multi-file solution, because renaming the files or convertiong them one at a time can cause them to lose track of one another. FileMaker Pro Developer, if I recall correctly, had a tool to convert a set of files simultaneously to avoid that issue. Alternately, you could try dragging and dropping the full set of files onto to the application to launch and convert them at once; I think that should work on a Mac, at least.
Does that help?
Do you get any error message using FM 11 ?
