Can Set Error Capture be set globally?

    jmci

As everybody knows Set Error Capture suppresses FileMaker alert messages. Some developers Set Error Capture On at the beginning of every script. Do you have to Set Error Capture Off at the end of the script or does Set Error Capture always return to Off when a script ends? Could you Set Error Capture On in the OnFirstWindowOpen triggered script while in development and set it Off during testing and in production?

          jmcl,

It always returns to Off at the end of a script. You can use a global variable and a branching script, however, to change behavior during testing vs. production.

          Does this help?

Why would you want to do this?

I would only activate error checking to on when I have error checking in a script. If another script starts failing for any reason later down the road, wouldn't you want error messages to pop up?

For instance, say you have a simple navigation script (IE go to layout based on a parameter or something), and you deleted one of the target layouts. What happens when error checking isn't present, but error capture is turned on?
