Downloading File in Container Field from Web Using PHP

I have a solution that is working just fine with FileMaker Server 11, and the FMStudio tools, on Lion Server (Mac OS X Server, 10.7.5). I have a container field that contains a file (often a FileMaker database). Web users log in, see that there is an updated file awaiting them, and click the link to download it.

Since upgrading to FileMaker Server 12, the latest version of FMStudio Pro, and Mountain Lion Server (Mac OS X Server 10.8.3), this seems to have broken. When I click the link, I receive the following:

HTTP Status 401 -

FileMaker Server has encountered an error:
This request requires HTTP authentication ().

If the Server Launch Page is not available, visit the FileMaker Website for more assistance.

FileMaker Server

I can find no reference to this anywhere, and I can't figure out how to provide the authentication that seems to be required now. I don't know if this is a FileMaker Server 12 issue (which seems to be indicated by the message), or if it's a Mountain Lion issue, which seems to be indicated by the authentication issue.

Has anyone else encountered this, or does anyone have any suggestions?
