I'm not in front of FM at the moment but you've got some nice controls that allow you to adjust left/right spacing, and also first line indent. I think you can set left space to say 10pt and first line indent to -10pt.
I've been hacking at filemaker now to try and get this behaviour, but I can seem to get it to happen. A negative indent is not possible. I've tried using tab positioning, but that's no good either.
Looks like I'm not going to be able to do this. No big deal, thanks for your suggesiton!
The effect you're after is commonly called hanging indents, and is certainly possible within Filemaker. You just have to understand how to use the markers on the ruler: Left indent; first line indent, and tabs. I made it work by modifying the ruler in Browse mode - not in Layout mode. That means the user can mess up the settings, but I always like to think my users are trainable. They also have to type the tab key after the paragraph number to get proper alignment.

thanks "s" I was beginning to think I had lost the plot, I thought it was possible!
Interesting to note just how much can be done with text and layouts in FileMaker, amazing!
