    schermpeter

Troi Automatisering releases Troi File Plug-in 6.2 for FileMaker Pro 12

Updated file management plug-in for FileMaker Pro 12 offers improved GPS and other metadata handling.

Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands, June 3rd, 2013--Troi Automatisering today announced the immediate availability of Troi File Plug-in 6.2 for FileMaker Pro 12.

      What is Troi File Plug-in?

Troi File Plug-in is a very powerful tool for getting access to information outside the FileMaker Pro database. Any files or folders stored on the computer can be accessed through the functions of the plug-in. All from within FileMaker Pro you can:

      - get data from files that are on the disk of the computer into FileMaker Pro

      - create files anywhere on the hard disk and put data from FileMaker fields into them

      - manipulate files and folders on the disk: this includes creating, deleting, copying, moving and modifying files and folders

      - get the size on disk, creation and modification dates and much more

      - launch and reveal files directly from FileMaker Pro

      - manage your images and movies, and read IPTC and Exif metadata from JPEG, Raw and PNG images

What is new in version 6.2?

Troi File Plug-in 6.2 is a maintenance release and has the following fixes:

      - The plug-in has improved GPS metadata handling: the minutes and seconds part of the GPS coordinates are now correctly returned in all cases. Also improved the GetExif example file: the latitude and longitude is better displayed, the minutes are now shown for all GPS formats.

      - The recursive listing of folders has been improved in the TrFile_ListFolder function: folders with a period as 2nd character in the name are now listed recursively too.

      - (Mac OS X) Fixed a problem with the TrFile_ExecuteShell function: short commands of only 2 characters like "ls" no longer return an empty string.

      - (Windows) Fixed a problem in TrFile_MetaData function with the switches "-GetImageDescription", "-GetMovieDescription" and "-GetPDFDescription". It no longer returns the error code $$-43 (file not found) for existing files.

      - Fixed a bug in TrFile_Substitute function where under certain conditions performing a substitute with a big file could give a wrong result.

      - (Windows) Fixed a problem where calling the TrFile_MetaData function with the switch "-GetXMP" and PNG image files could potentially hang the FileMaker Pro application.

      - Fixed a problem where the plug-in would not correctly load when running as a server-side plug-in or as a web-side plug-in under FileMaker Server 12.

Troi File Plug-in 6.2 gives you a greatly expanded file manipulation arsenal. You can easily check integrity of files as Troi File Plug-in 6.2 can return the MD5 hash value (checksum) of a file, all from FileMaker Pro!

Troi File Plug-in 6.2 also can get metadata from PDF files like: title, subject, author, number of pages. On top of the already extensive metadata support for JPEGs (like reading EXIF, IPTC and XMP), Troi File Plug-in 6.2 can also read the metadata from PNG images. The plug-in can even automatically detect if the IPTC metadata in JPEGs is UTF-8 encoded.

More detailed information on all of the changes and improvements implemented in Troi File Plug-in 6 can be found at:

      http://www.troi.com/software/filehistory.html

The plug-in adds 63 functions to FileMaker Pro, giving you limitless possibilities in managing your system outside of the database. We invite you to test drive the new functions and see what you can do with it!

          Hello Schempeter!

How can I go and fetch a bunch of PDFs from a OSX-Window?

Any hints would be much appreciated

            Hi G,

To list the pdf's in FileMaker use the TrFile_ListFolder function. To select several pdf files use the TrFile_SelectFileDialog function with the

            -AllowMultipleFiles switch.

See also the test script: "TESTM Select File Dialog (multiple)" in the SelectFile.fmp12(/fp7) example file. You will find this in the download of Troi File Plug-in:  http://www.troi.com/software/fileplugin.html

            Hope this helps,

Thank you for these precisions, Schermpeter!

I managed to import the “TESTM Select File Dialog (multiple)”-Script from the “SelectFile.fmp12” into my own project – Now I’m trying to implement it as well as the rest.

Regarding the “TrFile_SelectFileDialog” function, it seems I have to implement the call for the function into a script, if I understand well the “Getting-started”-info:

Plug-ins don't work directly after installation. To access a plug-in function, you need to add the calls to the function in a ScriptMaker Script.

But first, in my project, I’m not really sure if I’d rather add the call for the “TrFile_SelectFileDialog”-function into a ScriptMaker Script, or if I am supposed to import the SelectFileDialog-function from the “SelectFile.fmp12”. Or if it requires both actions.

Once I’m in the Script-Editor-Window, I get lost. …am I supposed to find either the “TrFile_SelectFileDialog”-function or the “AllowMultipleFiles”-Switch somewhere in the left column of the Script-Editor-Window? Or at a completely different place?

              Merci
