Did something in applescript change recently?

Anyone out there handy with applescript? I learned enough of it to be dangerous. Anyway, I wrote this script to grab and set file info when inserting plugins. Good idea, right? IT USED TO WORK GREAT. Now I'm doing a redesign of our plugin implementation and when I run that step I'm getting the errors "Object not found" and "Unknown error: - 10006."

Did something in applescript change recently? Here's the code:

      tell application "Finder"

      set the_alias to (choose file)

set file_info to info for the_alias

set file_name to name of file_info

set file_version to short version of file_info

set file_path to POSIX path of the_alias

      end tell

set cell "pluginName_File_g" of current record to file_name

set cell "pluginVersion_Required_g" of current record to file_version

set cell "pluginPath_File_g" of current record to file_path

      Thanks.

          tell application "Finder"

              set the_alias to (choose file)

set file_info to info for the_alias

set file_name to name of file_info

set file_version to short version of file_info

set file_path to POSIX path of the_alias

          end tell

not sure what changed when, but "info for" doesn't work within a Finder tell

block; remove that (first & last lines of quoted code) and it should work
