If you're looking for free, then nothing really beats the filemaker starter solutions. Given my interaction with non-profit fundraisers, I'd recommend either starting with the Event Management starter solution or the Contacts starter solution.
If you're looking for something geared specifically towards fundraisers, Daniel Shanahan over at New Leaf is about to release a very nice looking solution called FunderBase:
And there's also this list to look through:
Thanks so much Mike
Back in the .fp7 days, FileMaker Inc. put out "FileMaker Donations 2.0.1" which I believe was eventually made available for free. I've worked a few customizations out for clients, and it seemed to cover a lot of pieces of the puzzle (and was/is free). It should convert up to .fmp12 just fine, if you can get a copy.
Does anyone know where Donations lives nowadays?

I haven't heard about this in a while. Weren't those files originally developed by Soliant? I had never seen them released for free, but that was in my earlier days of development. I worked with the Filemaker Mobile solution for a while though, definitely was a "pay for it" product.
At your own risk, it seems you can get it as part of an old internal apple CD by doing a search for "Macintosh Apple Internal Use Software Disc".
Maybe someone can contact filemaker or soliant to see if there's a public free repository of those files again. Post the results here on technet if you figure something out.
Thx Drew. Would appreciate any advice on how to obtain a copy of this.
