The print setup script step allows you to store definitions from the "file > print setup" dialog box. This includes printer, paper tray selection and orientation. However this ONLY works if all users have references to the same printer.
If you want something more robust in terms of printing, there are numerous plugins that augment filemaker as well with printer focused functions:
Mostly it depends on what your application is. With filemaker 12's ability to remotely administer and install plugins, it might be worth it to invest the time for an upgrade.
My confusion was that on a Mac there is no "File > Print Setup" menu. Like the older versions of FMP, The Mac only has "Page Setup" and "Print..." menu options (and so FMP had corresponding "Page Setup" and "Print" steps. are the parameters that are selectable in the "Specify page setup" and "Specify" options of the Print Setup command the only parameters that the script step manages? And it used to be that you could only store one printer config per script. Do you know if it's possible to include multiple print steps in the same script but which codes for different printers, paper sizes, orientation, paper trays, etc.
yes, you can chain multiple print setup steps together to set setting for different printers in the same script.
I have a script that generates a PDF via a PDF printer, then prints out through a network printer.
The caveat of all printers being the same for each user (name, IP address, etc..) remains though.
