Could you elaborate on that? E.g., where are those pictures stored?
they are all seperate records in my pictures table, so would like to find the relivent records by job id then report it in a report that shows thumbnails left to right in order of date.
I guess you see where the problem is: Report: vertical, one record per row; Data in row: horizontal; Related records: need portal; Portal in FileMaker: vertical. With a vertical portal, it wouldn't be much of a report anymore.
This means that you need to fake a horizontal portal, by using the desired number of 1-row-portals, each one starting with the next offset into the related records. This is a bit of work, but not so bad; the disadvantage is that is doesn't slide nicely. If you display, say, 10 pictures side by side, a record with no pictures will occupy one row in the report, as will one with 20 pictures (of which you only see the first 10). But depending on the characteristics of the found records, this may work OK for you. Make sure that the relationship for the portal, or the portal itself, is sorted.
Could you use the "print in columns" feature?
OMG I consider myself an advanced user but never had to do this before, I feel really dumb thanks Mike for showing me this.
