I've had no problem with my Epson LQ-590
Steve, what driver do you use on your Mac? From what I found they only have a Windows driver.
Mac OS X comes standard with CUPS drivers for Epson and Oki 9 and 24 pin dot matrix printerrs. If you add a new printer from system preferences, select IP and type in something in the Address, then for 'Use' choose "Select Printer Software", you will see a list of all the available printer drivers.
The problem is the standard interfaces on most dot matrix printers are parallel (which won't connect to a mac) and USB which may not work without a driver from the vendor.
Perhaps the built in CUPS drivers do work via USB, I have not tried.
The solution I have used is a network print server like a HP JetDirect, which works well.
Hi Chris, et. al,
I have this similar challenge. My client uses OKI ML790 24-pin. I am using Maverick with FM 13 PA. OKI told me there isn't driver for that and I need to make use of "CUPS" but this printer is connected via USB, i.e. without IP.
The same fmp12 file work well when run on Windows 7 printing to this OKI printer but not on Maverick. Any work around?
My apology for jumpimg into this thread
I have been working with Oki on OSX printers. They have a recommended LPT to Ethernet print server that may work. Moving to a different printer may also be a good idea. Epson has some support but I have read they print off alignment after 1000 pages or so and need resetting. Oki has some higher end dot printers that they say are supported by Mavericks by USB and by Network connection option that is built in.
