Does the container fields files need to be on the same hard drive as the server
No. On OS X in FM 13 use /Volumes/someWhereOnYourNetwork. On Windows you can use a mapped drive letter or \\server\share
So this is a change from 12. To be clear. I can have the FileMaker server on a maxim I with the file for the database on the mini and then totally different drive for the image files in the containers
Do you have any documentation on this.
Unless I've missed something in FM13 my understanding is this:
1. if you use secure external storage you cannot specify the storage location—FM creates it within its own space
2. if you use open external storage you can specify the storage location
3. if you use pre FM12 methods and store only a reference this will override FM's external storage settings and the container field item will remain in its referenced location
4. if you use pre FM12 methods and store the file itself, it will be added to your database file
I'm using a mac server, but I can't seem to encourage Filemaker server 13 to store my Container data on a separate drive it just keeps changing the folder spec in "RC_Data_FMS". The ability to add New or Edit Base Directories is greyed out in Manage Containers.
Can you give an example?
